En effet, le haut représentant de l’union européenne pour les affaires étrangères et politiques, josep borrell a entamé depuis quelques jours une série de visites au sahel qui se poursuivra jusqu’au samedi 24 avril dont trois pays sont concernés. De la Mauritanie, m. Borrell se rendra au Tchad puis au Mali. Cette visite du haut représentant s’inscrit dans le contexte du sursaut civil et politique décidé au sommet de Ndjamèna en février dernier, et au lendemain de l’adoption par l’union européenne de sa nouvelle stratégie pour le sahel.

Le haut représentant Josep Borrell a déclaré : « Malgré une année particulière marquée par la crise du COVID-19, le Sahel reste en haut de l’agenda européen. Ma visite témoigne de notre engagement continu dans cette région dont la stabilité, la sécurité et le développement sont des priorités pour l’Union européenne. L’obligation de résultats n’a jamais été aussi forte, de part et d’autre. Les demandes des populations demeurent intactes, les attentes sont nombreuses, le tout dans un contexte sécuritaire qui reste très fragile.»

Faut-il rappeler que le Sahel et les pays du G5 Sahel sont une priorité pour l’Union européenne.

 Un dialogue politique étroit et un soutien important dans les domaines de la sécurité et de la défense, du développement et de l’aide humanitaire sont les quatre domaines prioritaires de (…)
