Le Général Laurent Michon, commandant de la force Barkhane a animé une Conférence de presse sur la réarticulation du dispositif français dans le Sahel. L’évènement qui avait pour cadre l’ambassade de France au Burkina le vendredi 11 mars 2022, s’inscrivait dans le cadre de la commémoration de la journée européenne d’hommage aux victimes du terrorisme. Au cours de cette rencontre, le commandant de Barkhane a fait savoir que les opérations en cours au Mali concernent le retrait.
Le fait de quitter le Mali ne signifie pas prendre position au Niger selon le Général Français : « Il ne s’agit pas de se repositionner au Niger. Il s’agit de se retirer du Mali. Les contingents italien, suédois, français qui partent du Mali vont rentrer en Europe. Un dispositif pourra par la suite être adapté au Niger à la demande des autorités militaires nigériennes.
